Gut Healthy Carbs & Fiber

October 15, 2018

Did you know that complex carbs/fiber can feed the good bacteria in you gut? II’ve started adding little bits of complex carbs and fiber back into my diet. Anyone with SIBO like me knows how horrible complex carbs, and fiber foods can make your stomach feel. Usually symptoms include your stomach swelling up so you look like a ballon just expanded or your 9 months preggers lol. Now that I’ve progressed a little further on healing my gut I’m adding little bits of prebiotic style foods back in. These foods are so important because the feed beneficial bacteria in your gut. If you starve out the bad bacteria on a low carb diet for too long, you also start to starve your good bacteria. It’s a tricky balancing act. Some of the foods I’ve added back include the sweet potato that’s in this Buddha bowl salad, I also dry roasted purple potato this same night which I love adding as well. If you don’t eat them in time, freeze them and save for later. Even if you don’t suffer from gut problems it’s good to know what the foods are doing to your gut biome, this way hopefully you can make decisions that will help and not hurt your gut!

Buddha Bowl

Ingredients:

Handful of lettuce

3-4 oz protein(I did bbq chicken)

1/4 avocado

1/4-1/2 potato or 1/2 cup

Walnuts and sesame seeds (half palm size amount)

Homemade dressing

I still go easy on the fiber/carbs because my gut cannot tolerate them. If you are ok then add a spoonful of beans, chickpeas, lentils or quinoa on top if you like a bit more fiber. A half or fist size amount of potato is a size nice portion that usually does the trick.
